Description
Introduction of BT Boards
BT Boards are a kind of Printed circuit boards (PCBs) made using BT substrate as materials, which is high performance and normally used in the electronics industry to make reliable and efficient circuit boards
BT Boards in SMD LED Applications
The PCBs used in SMD LED products are a unique type of circuit board, and it is also a simple form of IC substrates. Most BT substrates in the market are made from BT resin, which it developed by a Japanese company called Mitsubishi Gas Chemical Company of Japan . This resin is combined with Bismaleimide (B) and Triazine (T), it can provide excellent performance.
Advantages of BT Resin Substrates
BT PCB substrates can provide many benefits, including:
- High Glass Transition Temperature (Tg): Ranging from 255°C to 330°C, which makes them ideal for high-temperature environments.
- Heat Resistance: 160°C to 230°C temperatures withstanding.
- Moisture Resistance: Ensuring reliability in humid conditions.
- Low Dielectric Constant (Dk) and Dissipation Factor (Df): Perfect for high-high-frequency PCB, high-speed communication devices (such as 5G), and high-performance electronic components.
These advantages make BT resin material suitable for HDI (High-density interconnect) Multilayer PCBs and advanced packaging substrates
BT Copper-Clad Laminates for SMD LEDs
The BT copper-clad laminates, especially the CCL-HL 820 series, are widely used in SMD LED applications. CCL-HL 820WDI is the latest version and comes in thicknesses of 0.10mm, 0.20mm, 0.40mm, and 0.46mm. The copper foil thicknesses available are 1/2oz and 1/3oz, which makes the finished BT board thicknesses 0.18±0.03mm, 0.28±0.03mm, 0.48±0.03mm, and 0.54±0.03mm.
Types and Surface Treatments of BT Boards
Currently, Most BT PCBs are double-sided and can be divided into two main types:
- Conduction Methods: PCBs with drilled holes or routed
- Surface Treatments: PCB with gold plating or silver plating,
Gold plating is still the most widely used surface treatment, but silver plating is becoming more popular nowadays, as it can help to meet the requirements for brighter LEDs.
Applications of BT PCB
BT PCB was used only in chip packaging at the beginning, but it comes in many types now, such as:
- High-performance copper-clad laminates
- Chip carrier boards
- High-frequency copper-clad laminates
- Resin-coated copper foils
This variety has made BT boards useful in many different industries.
Characteristics of BT Resin Substrates
- Excellent Electrical Performance: Works well for high-speed and high-frequency applications due to low dielectric constant and loss.
- Heat Resistance: Excellent thermal stability for high-temperature environments.
- Durability: Strong and long-lasting, making it reliable for tough conditions.
