Description
What is DPC Ceramic PCB ?
DPC (Direct plated copper) technology is sputtering a thin titanium or copper layer onto a Ceramic substrate ( like Al₂O₃ or AlN) in a vacuum chamber, then the seed layer is electroplated to build up a thicker copper coating (thickness above 10 μm). Finally, with the photolithography and etching, create precise circuit traces.
The process of DPC Ceramic PCB manufacturing
1. Pretreatment: Choosing the Ceramic substrate, and cleaning, polishing it to ensure there is no contamination
2. Metallization: using the PVD magnetron sputtering technology, and deposit a titanium or copper layer on the Ceramic material.
3. Photolithography: Using the photolithographic technology, transfer the designed circuit patterns to the metallized Ceramic substrate.
4. Etching: Using the etching technology to remove the uncovered copper areas by photoresist, thus forming the circuit pattern
5. Soldermask and silkscreen printing: Printing soldermask and silkscreen on the PCB
DPC Ceramic PCB Advantage:
High Thermal conductivity: Ceramic PCB (AIN) can be 200W/MK, which can be used in high-power devices for heat dissipation. Low DK (dielectric constant ε<9 )and dissipation factor(tanδ<0.002) make it suitable for the RF/microwave components
High-Density Packaging: It can support the micron-level circuit integration and enable to minimization of the electronic products.
Stable Mechanical Properties: Copper-ceramic bonding strength >15MPa with excellent thermal shock resistance and mechanical impact resistance.
Dimensional Stability: Matched coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) with chips to reduce thermal stress risks.
Reliable Soldering: It can solder the chips directly to the surface copper layer to simplify the packaging processes
The difference between DPC, DBC, and AMB Ceramic PCB
DPC-Direct Plate Copper; DBC- Direct Blonded Copper; AMB- Active Metal Brazing
