FR4 PCBs use a fiberglass-epoxy substrate with thermal resistance of 20–22°C/W, while aluminum PCBs use a metal core with dielectric thermal conductivity 5–10 times higher than conventional epoxy glass. Aluminum PCBs dissipate heat far more efficiently, offer better dimensional stability, and are more mechanically robust. However, they are slightly more expensive and are best suited for high-power or thermal-critical applications.

Aluminium PCB pricing depends on board size, layer count, copper thickness, surface finish, and order volume. They are slightly more expensive than standard FR4 PCBs due to the metal substrate and specialized manufacturing process. Standard aluminum PCBs offer thermal conductivity of 1–3 W/MK through their dielectric layer — significantly better than FR4. For even higher performance, copper core PCBs achieve up to 400 W/MK.
