Aluminum PCBs offer significantly better thermal performance than FR4 boards. FR4 thermal resistance ranges from 20–22°C/W at 1.5mm thickness, while aluminum PCBs provide far lower thermal resistance. The dielectric layer in aluminum PCBs conducts heat 5–10 times more effectively than conventional epoxy glass used in FR4, making them ideal for high-power and high-temperature applications.

Aluminum PCB heat sinks are available in a wide range of copper thicknesses: 35μm, 70μm, 105μm, 140μm, 175μm, and 210μm — corresponding to approximately 1 oz to 10 oz of copper foil per square foot. Heavier copper weights support higher current carrying capacity and are suited for demanding power electronics and industrial applications.
