A flex PCB is entirely flexible, using a polyimide substrate throughout, and is suited for applications requiring continuous bending or tight space constraints. A rigid-flex PCB combines rigid FR4 sections with flexible polyimide zones in one integrated board, providing both structural support and routing flexibility. Rigid-flex designs reduce connectors and improve overall system reliability in demanding environments.

SFX PCB's flex PCBs support up to 8 layers in low-volume production and single or double panels in mass production. Rigid-flex PCBs can reach up to 20 total layers, with the flexible section supporting up to 12 layers. Layer counts are selected based on circuit complexity, signal integrity requirements, and the specific application's space and weight constraints.
