Aluminum core PCBs offer a cost-effective solution with thermal conductivity of 1–3 W/MK and are widely used in LED lighting, automotive, and consumer electronics. Copper core PCBs deliver up to 400 W/MK thermal conductivity, superior dimensional stability (elastic modulus ~121,000 MPa), and are preferred for ultra-high-power, RF, radar, and microwave applications where maximum heat extraction is critical.

Standard FR4 PCBs have thermal resistance of 20–22°C/W at 1.5mm thickness and very low thermal conductivity. Metal-backed PCBs with thermally conductive dielectric layers dissipate heat 5–9x faster than FR4. The aluminum or copper substrate spreads heat uniformly, lowering junction temperatures and significantly extending component lifespan in high-power applications.

FX PCB offers copper foil thicknesses from 1oz to 10oz (35µm–350µm) across all metal-backed PCB types. Board thickness ranges from 0.5mm to 5.0mm for aluminum base boards, with standard options of 1.0mm, 1.2mm, 1.5mm, and 2.0mm for copper core variants. Custom thicknesses are available upon request by submitting Gerber files.
